Greater use of computer-generated evidence has caused the number of expert witnesses in computer and information technology (IT) cases to soar by 49% in the last five years.

Greater use of computer-generated evidence has caused the number of expert witnesses in computer and information technology (IT) cases to soar by 49% in the last five years.

The three main growth areas have been computer records falsification, computer generated information as evidence, and computer records as evidence, according to research by Sweet and Maxwell publishers.

The average number of accredited firms offering expert witness services in IT has risen from 23 to 34.

Computer-based fraud has been another growth area for experts.
