Family mediation services are in need of urgent reform despite the government increasing the budget from £15m to £25m, according to Graham Lyons of Family First Mediation Service. Lyons says that the Family Mediation Helpline, which closed recently, should be reinstated, and that the mediation profession would be served better by having only one representative body. He suggests that solicitors should be paid a £25 referral fee for introducing clients to a mediation information and assessment meeting.
