According to the quarterly tribunal statistics up to the end of March, receipts, disposals and caseload for single claims at employment tribunals rose 6%, 22% and 39%, respectively, on last year.
For multiple employment claims, receipts and caseload outstanding rose 13% and 19% while disposals fell by 16%.
Employment lawyer Brian Gegg, partner at BDB Pitmans, said the rise ‘was an expected result from tribunal fees being abolished’, and showed that employees are now becoming more prepared to issue claims.
The government has paid out £17.3m under the employment tribunal fee refund scheme, up to the end of March (21,700 out of 22,000 applications received).
