Gillie Christou and Maria Ward, social workers in the Baby P case, have lost their unfair dismissal appeal (Christou and Ward v London Borough of Haringey UKEAT/0298/11).

Hilton Dawson, chief executive of the British Association of Social Workers, warned the case “would strike fear into the heart of every social worker”. Staff at Haringey Council’s social work department knew they were overburdened but did not raise the alarm, he says.
