In brief

The Joint Youth Justice Unit was launched last week. The new unit merges the responsibilities of the Youth Justice and Children Unit and those of the Young Offender Education Team of the Offenders Learning and Skills Unit of the former Department for Education and Skills. The unit’s main aims are: to develop policy and law in relation to children and young people who offend and are at risk of offending; and to ensure that children and young people in contact with the criminal justice system achieve the outcomes of the government’s Every Child Matters agenda.
