Downward trend of fatal injuries has levelled-off
The previous downward trend of fatal injuries in the workplace over the last four years appears to have levelled-off, according to provisional statistics for 2011/2012 from the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).
Some 173 people sustained fatal injuries in the last year, which is 12% fewer than the average (196 people) for the past five years, but only two people fewer than on the previous year. Figures will be finalised in July next year. This allows time for ongoing investigations as well as situations where someone dies as a result of their injury within a year of their accident.
