Resident sommelier Dominic Regan assesses the summer shelves & provides some insider tips for the best wines of the season
Just for a change, I am going to share some thoughts about wine and some tools of trade. It is possible, but not necessary, to spend a fortune on glassware. IKEA sells elegant glasses for very little. My other recommendation is TK Maxx, which regularly stocks the big name, Riedel, but at heavily discounted prices. My most recent coup was a pair of big Burgundy glasses for £7 rather than the mainstream cost of £30. As we move into the autumn, the range increases significantly.
Amazon is strong on corkscrews. The large but efficient rabbit device can be found for £15, with a no-nonsense waiters’ corkscrew just a couple of pounds. The Brabantia Profile Line is one I use regularly, and it is only £5.75.
Best on the shelf
What about the bottles, I hear you ask. Keep your eyes open and bargains will come your way. The major supermarkets, along with Marks & Spencer, regularly have a ‘buy six, get 25% off’
