Law Society chief executive Catherine Dixon has quit, describing the Law Society’s governance in her resignation letter as “costly” at more than £2m per year, “bureaucratic” and not reflective of how successful modern organisations operate. She said her executive team spent a “disproportionate time” navigating through the Law Society’s complex system of governance, “often reporting and seeking approval at multiple boards and at council”. Yet, when given an opportunity to change how the organisation is governed, the 100 council members voted to delay or reject such change, she said.
