Law Society calls for dirty money crackdown

The Law Society has welcomed the government’s focus on the highest-risk criminal activity in its anti-money laundering and asset recovery strategy 2026–29

The government estimates up to £100bn may be being laundered through the UK each year.

The strategy has three pillars: cutting back on ‘box-ticking’ to focus on the most harmful activity, sharing information and coordinating action, and investing in training, tech and legal powers.

Law Society president Mark Evans called for reforms supported with ‘measurable outcomes that demonstrate how they help identify, disrupt and prevent crime, not by the volume of checks firms are required to undertake’.
