In brief

Access to information for commercial use by trading funds organisations such as Ordnance Survey and the UK Hydrographic Office is to be reviewed by the government. The Office of Fair Trading (OFT) says more competition in public sector information could benefit the UK economy by around £1bn a year. Following its study on the commercial use of public information in 2006, it calls for public sector information holders to make as much public sector information available as possible for commercial use/re-use and to ensure that businesses have early access to public sector information.
