A dozen partner promotions in Asia, US & UK

Withers has appointed 12 new partners from across its teams and regional offices with effect from 1 July 2024.

The new partners are based in the UK, Asia and the US:

UK (pictured left to right):

Alex Taylor specialises in commercial arrangements involving intellectual property, technology and data, including rights acquisitions and disposals, portfolio structuring, licensing, procurement and commercial agreements, with a particular emphasis on the sports, tech and innovation sectors. Alex also advises on data protection compliance strategies.

Alexander Breedon is a highly rated family lawyer, advising clients on all aspects of family law including divorce and civil partnership dissolution, financial disputes, cohabitation, children matters and pre and postnuptial agreements. He has particular experience in dealing with complex financial disputes as well as children matters, including those involving international relocation.

Andrew Fremlin-Key is a media and reputation lawyer, advising clients on contentious data protection, defamation, privacy, blackmail and harassment issues, ranging from phone hacking cases and right to erasure applications to non-disclosure agreements for highly confidential clients. Andrew has also carved out a niche practice advising a broad range of high profile clients on contentious tax litigation and multi-jurisdictional investigations.

Joseph Brothers is a tax lawyer based in London who advises on the US tax aspects of private wealth structures, closely held businesses, investment products and funds. His practice focuses on the interaction between personal tax and business tax structuring, with a particular emphasis on entrepreneurs, executives, and trusts with some connection to the US. He also advises family offices, individuals, and businesses on ‘inbound’ US tax issues, including US real estate, funds, and direct equity and debt investments.

Maya Buckland is a US qualified private client and tax lawyer working in the firm's London office. Maya advises on US tax, trust and estate planning for US and international families, with particular experience assisting clients with complex multi-jurisdictional issues. She frequently advises US taxpayers on IRS US voluntary disclosure programs, and also assists public charities and private foundations with US tax matters.

Roger Waite represents all types of charities, foundations and non-profits on charity law, governance, fundraising and regulatory matters. Roger also has wide experience of philanthropy and has worked on the formation and operation of a number of significant grant-making foundations and has provided advice to major philanthropists on their work with charities and non-profits.

Sarah Aughwane is a trusts and inheritance disputes litigator, advising on all forms of domestic and international probate disputes, including issues relating to the validity of wills and trusts and claims under the Inheritance (Provision for Family and Dependants) Act 1975. Sarah also specialises in on and offshore trust litigation and has experience of cases in a wide range of offshore jurisdictions.

Singapore

Sharon Lin focuses on the contentious and non-contentious aspects of insurance, working with many of the major insurance companies in Singapore. Her practice also involves a significant amount of commercial litigation and arbitration cases, such as mining disputes, breaches of fiduciary duties, minority oppression, trademark infringement and tort of conspiracy claims.

Tokyo

Akinari Nakano advises Japanese and international clients on a broad range of transactions and matters, particularly in the areas of real estate acquisition and financing, real estate securitization, onshore/offshore joint ventures, asset management and financial regulation matters. He has also been involved in disputes involving real estate.

US

Alan Witlen is based in Los Angeles and focuses on tax matters involving corporations, partnerships, tax-exempt organizations, individuals, and the income tax aspects of intra-family wealth transfers. Alan counsels investors on the tax aspects of US inbound and outbound opportunities, as well as representing successful families and individuals looking to move to, from or within the US. 

Ilyse Dolgenas practices with the real estate group and is based in New York. She assists clients with all aspects of luxury residential real estate, including purchase and sale, construction, renovation and design. Ilyse has extensive experience with the preparation, review and negotiation of commercial real estate purchase and sale agreements, commercial leases, brokerage agreements and non-disclosure agreements.

Lawton Leung is based in New Haven and advises on US domestic and international tax, trust, and estate planning for high net worth individuals and their families. He regularly advises donors with respect to planned giving structures and counsels public charities, private foundations, and other tax-exempt organizations on formation, tax, and regulatory matters.
