Northern Ireland made history this week, legalising same-sex marriage and decriminalising abortion.
In both cases, the law reforms took effect at midnight on 21 October despite the Assembly at Stormont being recalled by opponents in a bid to block them. The Assembly has not sat for more than 1,000 days due to a row between coalition partners.
