Sir Ernest Ryder, Senior President of Tribunals, has confirmed that the Tribunals Caseworker delegation scheme should remain in place, in the First-tier Tribunal (War Pensions and Armed Forces Compensation Chamber). In a practice statement issued last week, Sir Ernest said he was content that the delegations remain in place, subject to periodic reviews led by the chamber president (or acting chamber president). Accordingly, a member of staff appointed under statute as a ‘tribunal caseworker’ can exercise a range of decision-making, caseworker and administrative duties. The tribunal hears appeals by servicemen and women (current and former) regarding pensions and compensation.
