Lord Neuberger, President of the Supreme Court, has surveyed the 15 most significant cases of the last 150 years, which were named in a poll of lawyers by the Incorporated Council of Law Reporting for England and Wales, which is celebrating its 150th anniversary.
Giving the keynote address at the anniversary event this week, Lord Neuberger said that law reporters “played a vital part in the perception and development of the law”. He outlined the importance and relevance of such cases as Rylands v Fletcher , which decided the liability of a person who keeps something on his land which is likely to do damage if it escapes.
