Supreme justice: Lord Burrows

Professor Burrows QC will be sworn in as Justice of the UK Supreme Court in a closed ceremony, on 2 June.

Lord Reed, Supreme Court President, will attend in person while the rest of the Justices will appear virtually. Prof Burrows, of Oxford University, is the first Justice to be appointed direct from academia.

He has been sitting as a part-time judge for more than 20 years, as a Recorder and a Deputy High Court Judge. He was a Law Commissioner for England and Wales (1994-1999) and has written books and articles on contract, tort, unjust enrichment, and statute law.
