The Article 50 case ‘helped to draw attention to the work of the [Supreme] Court and... underline the Court’s place in the constitution’, according to the Supreme Court’s annual report, published last week. Analysis of judgments handed down by the court during the year shows fewer human rights and tax cases (from nine to four, and seven to three, on the previous year) and more immigration and statutory interpretation cases (up from two to seven and zero to four). Overall, there were fewer applications for permission to appeal, down 11% to 192. However, the grant rate increased 3% to 35%.
