A kitemarking scheme could be set up for barristers’ chambers, under proposals floated in a Bar Standards Board (BSB) ‘consultation on the regulation of barristers in chambers’ this week. The BSB also proposes making its assessments of individual chambers public

The 17-page consultation paper covers standards, pupillage, equality and inclusion, bullying and harassment, sanctions and other regulatory matters.

The consultation, which runs until 29 February 2024, follows a series of roundtables organised with chambers and other Bar representatives. The BSB aims to consolidate its expectations on standards in a single online document. It will hold further roundtables from November onwards.
