Sovereign roles: update from House of Commons Library

A report detailing what happens on the demise of the Crown and accession of a new Sovereign has been published by the House of Commons Library

It outlines the role of the Cabinet, Privy Council, Parliament, Buckingham Palace and Church of England, among others, using precedent from previous transfers of authority, including the death of King George VI in 1952. The report, The death of a monarch, can be viewed here. Ordinary Parliamentary business has been suspended until after the State funeral on 19 September.
