Firm promotes clinical negligence specialist to associate

Hugh James has promoted clinical negligence specialist Sophie Jones to associate as part of the continued growth of its London office.

The promotion represents the next stage in Sophie’s career at Hugh James, where she began her legal training in 2009 at the firm’s Cardiff office. She qualified as a solicitor in 2011, before moving to the central London office when it opened in 2013. She has worked on and assisted with cases where the compensation recovered collectively exceeds £2m.

With a special interest in cases involving bowel surgery, fatal accidents and delays in diagnosing cancer, Sophie has also worked on complex cases relating to brain injury, secondary victim psychiatric injury, still birth and spinal injury claims.

Since it was established, Hugh James’ five strong clinical negligence team in London, led by partner Grainne Barton, has secured more that £5m in compensation for individuals whose lives have been significantly affected as a result of negligence by healthcare professionals.

Sophie says: “When the firm announced it was opening an office in London four years ago I immediately put myself forward to be part of the team. Since then I’ve been given the opportunity to help a number of individuals and families to rebuild their lives as much as possible following serious injury or the death of a loved one, and am keen to specialise in this area going forward.  I am therefore delighted to have been recognised by Hugh James for my work so far.”

Mark Harvey, head of the claimant division at Hugh James, adds: “Sophie has excelled in the clinical negligence litigation work that she has undertaken to date, and we are very pleased to recognise her achievements. We’re also very proud that having joined us as a trainee, Sophie has chosen to develop her career here at Hugh James.”
