The solicitors disciplinary tribunal (the tribunal) comprises an expert and informed tribunal which is particularly well placed in any case to assess what measures are required to deal with defaulting solicitors and to protect the public interest, nevertheless the High Court will interfere if it is satisfied that a sentencing decision is clearly inappropriate.

The defendant solicitor had an interest in a company (the company) which acted as an intermediary for obtaining expert evidence in support of claims handled by solicitors on The Accident Group (TAG) panel. The TAG panel operated a claims management scheme involving the sourcing, funding and representation of claimants in personal injury cases. The defendant was employed by a firm of solicitors (the firm) which had been involved in the TAG scheme as vetters of claims for TAG
