News in brief

Business is booming for employment lawyers—recruitment is up 37% in the 12 months to May 2009, according to legal recruitment firm GRS. Corporate recovery work is another successful area of work as companies restructure, and GRS reports 20% more corporate lawyers being hired in the first quarter of 2009 than in the final quarter of 2008. Niche firms are beating magic circle firms when it comes to recruiting the best talent, with many lawyers seeing niche law firms as a preferable career option.
