NLJ this week: Rule of law in a time of war

199239
Donald Trump, populism and the UK Attorney General Richard Hermer KC’s (pictured) recent speech on the rule of law are explored in former JUSTICE director Roger Smith’s NLJ column this week.

Smith notes, however, that, ‘somewhat quizzically, Lord Hermer’s speech contained crucial silences’. There are reasons for these silences, as Smith shows, but should Lord Hermer simply admit his difficulties? Smith’s column addresses a weighty moral, political and jurisprudential conundrum.
