New Family President appointed

Sir Andrew McFarlane has been appointed as the next President of the Family Division, replacing Sir James Munby, who is retiring, on 28 July. Sir Andrew, who co-wrote Children Law and Practice which coincided with the enactment of the Children Act 1989, was called to the Bar in 1977 and took Silk in 1998. He was appointed a Deputy High Court Judge in 2000 and a High Court Judge in the Family Division in 2005. He was a member of the Family Justice Review and is a current member of the Nuffield Foundation-financed review into children in care.
