A Modern Slavery Bill has been included in the Queen’s Speech. According to the Home Office, victims will be made eligible for compensation and judges will be required to consider making reparation orders against perpetrators where assets are available, and to give reasons where no reparation order is made. Victims will be given protection from prosecution where they are trafficked into the UK to work in illegal industries, for example, in prostitution, and have had “no other reasonable alternative” than to commit the offence.
