Publicity surrounding the Law Commission’s recommendations for marital agreements to be made legally binding if certain conditions are fulfilled has prompted a 50% surge in enquiries about prenups, law firm Hugh James reports. Charlotte Leyshon, an associate at the firm, says: “Prenups were once seen as the preserve of just the super-rich. However, more and more affluent middle class families and professionals are taking steps to protect their own assets or earnings before the big day.” She said individuals with large inheritances due, and couples with a big age gap, were taking a particular interest.
