David Greene, Law Society president, said more hearings may need to be conducted remotely, where appropriate, and safety must be ‘the overriding priority’.
Greene said it was ‘absolutely vital’ safety measures were in place where cases needed to be heard in person and clear communications were maintained between HM Courts and Tribunals Service (HMCTS) and court users.
He said: ‘We have expressed deep concerns about safety in cells and are watching this issue very closely as we discuss it with all stakeholders.’
