Lawyers in Local Government (LLG) has published guidance in association with the Association of Democratic Services Officers (ASDO) and David Kitson from Bevan Brittan, on the subject of local authority meetings during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

Lexis®Library update: The guidance is designed to help stakeholders navigate the options moving forward for local authorities following a recent High Court judgment in relation to the application for a declaration that current legislation permits remote meetings, which was brought by Hertfordshire County Council, LLG and ADSO.

According to LLG, its members have expressed concerns regarding the scope of the judgment and the steps that can be taken now that the Local Authorities and Police and Crime Panels (Coronavirus) (Flexibility of Local Authority and Police and Crime Panel Meetings) (England and Wales) Regulations 2020, SI 2020/392 have ended. The guidance is designed to help guide local authorities amid the coronavirus pandemic, now that the High Court ruling requires that councils have arrangements in place to hold physical meetings.
