Lexis®Library update: The review was requested by the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities, and will examine the technical laws concerning the procedures for acquisition of land through compulsory purchase orders and the system for assessing compensation awarded to parties in relation to compulsory purchase acquisitions.
The Law Commission has said it aims to consider how outdated compulsory purchase law can be modernised and made more accessible.
Preliminary research for the review will begin in early 2023, and there will be pre-consultation engagement with stakeholders and a review of the 2003 and 2004 Law Commission reports on compulsory purchase, in addition to analysis of the existing legislation.
