Lexis®Library update: The report has said the IPA 2016 has achieved its aim of consolidating existing powers in relation to communications data, the interception of communications and equipment interference and oversight bodies, and the aim of enhanced oversight and safeguards for use of powers ‘appears’ to have been achieved. With respect to modernisation and futureproofing, the Home Office has that the the IPA 2016 has not been immune to changes in technology in the last six years and it will need to be kept under review.
The Home Office has further said that the Home Secretary, Suella Braverman, has appointed Lord Anderson to conduct a separate review into the IPA 2016 to inform any potential legislative change.
