Lewisham Council—Suki Binjal

Lewisham Council appoints new director of law
Lewisham Council has announced that it has appointed Suki Binjal as director of law, governance and HR.

Suki will join the team in July. She had been working with London Borough of Hackney, where she redesigned and led a modern and sustainable approach to the delivery of legal and governance services, and more recently she has also been working at Birmingham City Council as the interim City solicitor and monitoring officer.

Suki has had a long and successful career in local government and was president (2017/19) of LLG, a national membership body representing public sector lawyers.

Previous roles include director of law at the Commission for Racial Equality, a founder member of a women’s refuge, chair of the Portsmouth Equalities Forum, as well as various non-executive director roles such as external advisor on the policy committee with the Solicitors’ Regulation Authority.

Suki said: ‘Lewisham Council is in an exciting phase of its transformation journey and I am delighted to have been given the opportunity to join the senior leadership team, to drive forward the delivery of member’s ambitious priorities and make a real and lasting difference to the communities within the borough.’
