Some 23 members of the Law Society Council will have to stand down at the next election after solicitors voted in favour of term limits and constituency reforms
In October, the Law Society AGM decided to ballot all members on 12-year maximum terms for council members and a reorganisation of council constituencies to reflect geographical representation.
Both resolutions have now been approved with 83.3% (constituency) and 77.2% (terms). More than 12,000 of 200,000 eligible members voted.
Law Society president David Greene said: ‘Term limits are commonplace among governing bodies.’
