Andrew Caplen, the new Law Society President, has promised to prioritise access to justice and legal aid concerns, in his inaugural speech. He will undertake research into the effects of the civil legal aid changes and hopes to launch an access to justice campaign in the autumn. He said he would lobby the government to make legal aid more easily accessible to domestic violence victims, in particular. Caplen is a consultant with Heppenstalls, a Hampshire-based private client firm and has been a council member since 2000.
