Nominations for 2014 awards are open

The search for the winners of the 2014 LALYs—the Legal Aid Lawyer of the Year awards—has launched. This year, new categories have been introduced: Family Mediation, Housing, Inquests/Actions Against State, and Legal Aid Champion. The judges will be Lord Justice Andrew McFarlane, who sits in the Court of Appeal, former Director of Public Prosecutions Keir Starmer QC and journalist Owen Jones. Carol Storer, director of the Legal Aid Practitioners Group (LAPG), the award organisers, says “exceptional work” is being done at the “legal aid coalface”.
