The Judicial Office sees communication with judges about modernisation reforms and explaining the impact of Brexit to the government as key priorities for the year ahead.

Launching its business plan this week, the Judicial Office said it wanted the judiciary ‘as a whole to engage meaningfully with and shape the development of the reform programme’. It said ‘technical exchanges on Brexit’ could enable the judiciary to inform the government’s approach to leaving the EU.

In their foreword, the Lord Chief Justice, Lord Burnett, and Senior President of Tribunals, Sir Ernest Ryder, said they want to see a ‘step change in communication with the judiciary’. They also stated they want to tackle the slump in judicial morale and will ‘keep pressing for action to improve the [court and tribunal] estate’.
