Fladgate has strengthened its international arbitration practice with the appointment of Thomas Karalis as a partner, effective 1 July 2024.

Thomas, who joins from Ashurst, is a dispute resolution lawyer with more than 15 years’ experience conducting arbitrations under leading institutional rules in all major seats, under both civil and common laws. He regularly advises clients on complex and high-value commercial disputes across jurisdictions, with a particular focus on the energy, natural resources and automotive sectors.

He has experience running large, high-value and technically complex disputes, in addition to extensive experience on injunctive relief measures through both the Courts and Emergency Arbitrator proceedings.

Commenting on his appointment, Thomas said: ‘Fladgate is a firm with ambitious plans for its dispute resolution team and I’m excited to be joining at this point in its trajectory. Its client offering is unparalleled and I am looking forward to working with my new colleagues to support our clients’ needs across the international arbitration spectrum.’

Grant Gordon, managing partner at Fladgate, said: ‘Thomas is an invaluable addition to our successful and growing litigation team and will further enhance our international disputes practice.

‘We have a reputation for providing breadth and depth of expertise to our clients to support them through fast moving and complex challenges and welcome Thomas’s skillset to complement our offering. With Thomas’ arrival we continue to build on our reputation as a firm offering a differentiated service and premium approach in the private client space.’

John Evans, head of dispute resolution, added: ‘Thomas brings extensive experience in international arbitration and commercial litigation and with his dual qualification in both England & Wales and in Paris, he will be a great asset in providing high-value advice and support to clients with cross-border issues.’
