CPS stats

Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) data for the first quarter of 2021-2022, published last week, showed completed prosecutions now running at similar levels to before the COVID-19 pandemic

Some 109,685 cases were finalised, compared to 107,497 in the three months preceding the pandemic. However, the number of outstanding Crown Court cases rose to 70,011 on 30 June. Completed rape prosecutions had almost doubled compared to the same period last year, and increased by more than 25% compared to the fourth quarter of 2019-2020, before the pandemic.
