CILEx has proposed more transparency on costs and service as part of its response to the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) report in 2016, which found that legal services are not working as well as they should be. It launched a consultation last week proposing that CILEx-regulated law firms be required to publish information on price, including the charging model, such as fixed fee, and any additional costs; service, including a description of the work included in the price, and how long it will take; consumer redress options; and how the firm is regulated, including professional indemnity cover and availability of CILEx Regulation’s compensation arrangements.

Initially, the requirement will only apply to firms doing conveyancing or wills. The consultation ends on 21 December.
