Newly elected to the post of chairman of the Bar Council is Desmond Browne QC, who is a leading silk and currently vice-chairman of the Bar. Nicholas Green QC has been appointed vice-chairman and is a leading QC in areas of European law, public and administrative law, and competition law. Andrew Mitchell QC has been cemented in the role as treasurer for a second term and is also head of criminal set Furnival Chambers. They all take up their posts on 1 January 2009.
